If you love quilts, this is the show to attend. A part of the Blue Ridge Folklife Festival, the Mountain Comforts Quilt Show has long been one of the premier quilt shows in the Virginia. Entries come from across Virginia and nearby states, and the judges are certified by the National Quilting Association. Lucy Ricardo of Callaway, Virginia, coordinates the show with support from over 20 quilt shops, businesses, and quilting guilds.

Mountain Comforts presents awards in over two dozen categories. In 2006 the show featured 144 quilts from adult quilters and 26 entries from youth quilters. The Viewers’ Choice Award went to Nell Townley of Vinton, Virginia, for her quilt “Keepsake Album Squares” (pictured here). All children entering a quilt receive gift prizes.

Copies of last year’s Mountain Comforts Quilt Show catalog (the catalog does not include photographs) are available by mail for $2.00 from the Blue Ridge Institute & Museum, Ferrum College, Ferrum, Virginia 24088.

The 2007 Mountain Comforts Quilt Show will be held October 27, 2007.
